| Another
Long
Story |
Montgomery/Finlin
grew up in the same town
it was like she was born for me
i was turnin' seventeen years old
when she was just turnin' sixteen
our parents said we went to the same church
i probably kissed her in the nursery
but when you ask me what she's doin' now
i say, "man, it's just another long story."
drivin' out of nashville
i was bright-lighted by all the big trucks
so i got on the cb to explain,
"it's just that i'm loaded down with all my stuff."
made friends with some dude from arkansas
pulled over at a truckstop to have some coffee
and when he asked me what i was runnin' from
i said, "man, it's just another long story."
he said, "man, i know just what you're talkin' about
the words comin' out of your mouth,
you've heard too many times before,
so don't waste your words on a stranger
you better conserve your energy,
'cause it sounds like you're gonna need it,
besides, it's probably just another long story."
drivin' out of l.a.
i'd decided to make a clean break
go where the girls talk with a drawl
and the real men still eat steak
got a letter from some dude somewhere in america
he said, "hey man, i love your music, it's a little rock
and a little country, and how come the bigwigs don't
pusha you betta."
and i said, "it's just another long story"

| Red-Blooded
American Boy |
Montgomery/Gottlieb See you dancin' in the corner with
All your best girlfriends
Laughin' and singin' these are the days of Your innocence
All us boys want in your circle but we
Don't dare break in
I'm leanin' against the wall thinkin
While your laugh is still easy
And your heart is still light
Why don't you dance with this red-blooded American boy
tonight
'Cause your life is just a breath
And tonight is just the dance
So why don't you give this red-blooded American boy the
chance
A woman stands beside me in my mind Her hair has a touch of
gray
Sometimes I just shut my mouth
I know she knows what I'm gonna say
A look comes from her eyes
Only born of loving yearsSometimes I open up my mouth and
I fight back her tears
I say
While your laugh is still easy
And your heart is still light
Why don't you dance with this red-blooded American boy
tonight
'Cause your life is just a breath
And tonight is just the dance
So why don't you give this red-blooded American boy the
chance
Oh baby I'm out of control
Don't know which way to run
Don't know which way to go
Oh these days it's getting harder to live
We all need someone to hold onto
Just hold onto me and I'll hold onto you
Dance with me - I wanna dance with you Oh oh oh
While your laugh is still easy
And your heart is still light
Why don't you dance with this red-blooded American boy
tonight
'Cause your life is just a breath
And tonight is just the dance
So why don't you give this red-blooded
American boy the chance
Yes why don't you give this red-blooded
American boy the chance

| I
Don't Even Know Your Name |
Raul
Malo/Robert Reynolds/Jerry Dale McFadden/Nick Kane/Paul Deakin
Everytime you pass me by I sit alone and wonder why
I try so hard to catch your eye
When I don't even know your name
With my eyes I've seen the world
But never has there been a girl
To make me fall in love this way
And I don't even know your name
If you analyze
You will realize
That you won't have to find another
Don't you wait
Please don't hesitate
Anymore
In my mind a thousand times
I played the part and read my lines
You and I would be the stars
And I don't even know your name
If you analyze
You will realize
That you won't have to find another
Don't you wait
Please don't hesitate
Anymore
In my mind a thousand times
I played the part and read my lines
You and I would be the stars
And I don't even know your name

| Lookin'
Out For # One |
Montgomery/Neigher
Saw her walking down sunset blvd.
Pushin' her sleepin' hungry kids in a grocery cart
Put a band-aid on it with my five dollars
But those kids are growin' up so hard
But i fight to keep the passion
But i can feel myself growin' numb
I guess you call it self-protection
Lookin' out for #1
There's an old man with alzheimer's
He's got a hard time acceptin' it so he goes out on
These long walks
And he falls down in the middle of the street
And he just lays there, and no one
Helps him
And i fight to keep the passion
But i can feel myself growin' numb
I guess they call it self-protection
Lookin' out for #1
Five years later i think back to that night on sunset blvd.
Even drove past the place where i saw that woman
Her kids must be going to school now, or somewhere
Causin' trouble
But what do i care? what can i do about it, anyway?
But i fight to keep the passion
But i can feel myself growin' numb
I guess you call it self-protection
Lookin' out for #1
Lookin' out for #1
Lookin' out for #1
It's killing me
It's killing me
It's killing me

| I
Won't Close My Eyes |
Montgomery/Gottlieb
I don't wanna think that you could be runnin' around
After all the love that I have shown you
I won't knock on your door
I won't call to see if you're home
But I won't close my eyes
Love is a matter of trust
And I just want to believe in us
But last night in your kiss I felt a lie on your lips
But I won't knock on your door
I won't call to see if you're home
But I won't close my eyes
There are two kinds of love
Those who are true and those untrue
I see black and white
Are you somewhere lost between the two?
I won't knock on your door
I won't call to see if you're home
But I won't close my eyes
No I won't close my eyes

| Melrose |
Montgomery
Let's go down to Melrose
Gonna buy you some vintage clothes
Let's go out in Hollywood
I'll be bad, you be good
Friend of mine told me about a party in
the hills
said there's gonna be lots of cool people
there
I wanna, I wanna, Make fun of all the
wannabes
isn't it true
these are the best times we've had
Isn't it true
this is us, this is real, this is how I want
to feel
She came all the way from Chicago
what she'd find she did not know
restless boy from Tennessee
chasin' down all his crazy little dreams
she said, "life can be so t-t-tough in this
town, I need you so it won't pull me
down, so pull me down 'cause I wanna
